Together with our long-term funding Partner, Shoprite Checkers, Lunchbox Fund is piloting a pre-school nutrition program in five creches outside Maseru and Beira, Lesotho. Like Mozambique, the removal of USAid support and high tariffs attached to the production of textiles has resulted in a humanitarian crisis in the country. Our intention is to attract 250 children to small pre-schools to set them up for Primary School admission, and to offer a meal as both fuel for learning, and an incentive for their parents to keep them in school. Each child will receive a bowl of hot, micro-nutrient enriched porridge on arrival—for most their first meal of the day. Schools will be supported with education provision by the Early Care Foundation, ensuring that quality nutrition is supporting quality nutrition. This holistic approach will ensure improved educational and overall health outcomes. The pilot is set to run from August 2025 - December 2026.
